An asphalt batch mix plant is a key component of today’s road construction process. Unlike the more basic drum mixer, asphalt batch plants can produce a specific and constant asphalt, which is an extremely helpful thing. It is also important to understand how batch plants perform their operation.
First, the raw aggregates are sorted by size into separate bins, after which they are transported to the drying drum, where the burner heats them up. After the aggregates have been heated, they are taken into an elevator and are lifted to a screening unit where each aggregate is sorted into a different hot bin.
The next step is the mixing batch, where specific quantities of aggregates are weighed and then transferred to the mixing unit, where they are mixed with hot bitumen and filler materials to produce a homogenous, perfect mixture of asphalt. The last step is loading asphalt into trucks and/or storage for transport. All these processes are able to be completed from a control panel via an input of information from the plant.
